An Excellent Spirit: How to Stand out in Life And Your Faith in God

pvncommunication

Introduction

Have you ever wondered what makes some people stand out? What makes them shine even in tough situations? The Bible gives us a powerful example in Daniel 6:3 (NKJV): "Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm."

Daniel wasn’t just lucky—he had an excellent spirit. He was diligent, faithful, and committed to doing things with integrity. And guess what? That’s exactly what God calls us to do too!

What Does It Mean to Have an Excellent Spirit?

An excellent spirit isn’t about being perfect—it’s about having the right attitude, being faithful in what you do, and striving to be your best. Here are a few key qualities:

1. Faithfulness in Every Season

Daniel was faithful no matter where he was—whether in a foreign land, under pressure, or even when facing danger. He didn’t compromise his values or cut corners.

  • Genesis 41: Joseph was faithful in prison before he became a ruler.

  • Luke 16:10 (NLT): "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones."

If we want God to entrust us with big things, we must first prove ourselves faithful in the little things.

2. Diligence and Hard Work

Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV) says: "Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men."

Excellence doesn’t come from wishful thinking. It comes from consistent effort. Many people get excited when they receive a prophecy about their future, but then they sit back and do nothing.

God’s promises require our participation! Success often comes down to:

  • Putting in the effort

  • Being willing to learn

  • Taking initiative instead of waiting for opportunities

3. Living by God’s Standards, Not Our Own

God has a standard for everything—including how we live, work, and serve. Leviticus 10:3 (NKJV) reminds us: "By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified."

God doesn’t bless mediocrity. He expects us to give our best. He is specific about how He wants things done, just like when He instructed Moses to build the tabernacle. If we want to see His blessings, we must align ourselves with His way of doing things.

4. Commitment to Growth and Wisdom

Daniel wasn’t just hardworking—he was wise. He invested in learning, understanding, and growing spiritually.

  • Daniel 5:12: "Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel."

  • Isaiah 28:29: "This also comes from the Lord of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance."

Excellence is about constantly improving, seeking wisdom, and allowing God to shape us.

How to Develop an Excellent Spirit

So how do we cultivate this spirit of excellence in our daily lives? Here are some practical steps:

  1. Be Faithful in Small Things – Show up, be reliable, and do your best even when no one is watching.

  2. Work Hard and Give Your Best – Don’t cut corners. Whatever you do, do it as if you're doing it for God (Colossians 3:23).

  3. Seek Wisdom and Knowledge – Never stop learning, whether it’s in your faith, your work, or personal growth.

  4. Live by God’s Standards – Excellence is about doing things God’s way, even when it’s not convenient.

  5. Be Consistent – Excellence isn’t a one-time thing—it’s a habit.

Conclusion

Living with an excellent spirit sets us apart. It’s not about being the smartest or most talented, but about having the right heart and attitude. When we commit to faithfulness, diligence, and following God’s ways, He opens doors we never imagined.
